As one Regency Reader recently wrote to me, the market for young adult historical romance sometimes seems dauntingly limited to Austen and Heyer.
I dipped my toe into the young adult (16+) historical romance with my novella series The Harrington House Party Series…and other contemporary authors have, too. So young readers, I have compiled a little shopping list for you to take with you on your next visit to the independent bookstore in your hometown (or online!).
- Anna and the Duke by Kathryn Smith
- Emily and the Scot by Kathryn Smith
- Tess and the Highlander by May McGoldrick
- Victoria and the Rogue by Meg Cabot
- Nicola and the Viscount by Meg Cabot
- The Season by Sarah MacLean

Great idea! I think you should add The Agency: Spy In The House by Y S Lee to that list as well. While it’s more Victorian era it would be a great start for any teen looking to read books that take place prior to the 1900’s
Here are some more I forgot to add:
Aidan, Pamela.
An Assembly Such as this : a Novel of Fitzwilliam Darcy Gentleman
Aston, Elizabeth
The Darcy Connection
Klassen, Julie
The Apothecary’s Daughter
McCullough, Colleen, 1937-
The Independence of Miss Mary Bennet
I have a 11 year old and have him readying all of the children classics this summer. He appears to be enjoying it.
