The Sportsman’s Dictionary: Regency Science and Invention

A Corinthian enjoying all the rural pleasures and country sport necessarily must have some source of education.  The Sportman’s Dictionary; Or Gentleman’s Companion (1800) for Town and Country provides not only useful dictionary of terms, but many beautiful illustrations perfect for any aspirant of the whip, net or rod (fishing, that is).

I was in search of a Regency era flea powder for a particularly mangy mutt, but the Dictionary can also be used for authors and historians in search of all sorts of traps, poultices, and other accessories used by the sporting kind.

Incidently, the recommendation for fleas is a liberal application of chalk rubbed on the dog followed by a brush or comb once or twice a week.
