Its been some time since my last list of top funny Reg Roms, and even though those lists of eight and fifty still stand as hilarious, I thought it high time I roll out another list.
Clean and Vanilla
1. Carola Dunn: Two Corinthians There is much to like about Dunn’s comedy of errors. While not quite as rompish as I had hoped, at least until the third act, there are still moments that will make a reader smile if not laugh out loud.
2. Joan Smith: Babe There are some wonderful supporting characters and some funny scenes that keep this clean Reg Rom rolling.
3. Diane Farr: Falling for Chloe Clean, traditional Reg. Rom with a sweet friends to lovers plot filled with challenges, tonnish activities, and funny, light hearted action.
4. Jillian Leigh: The Rules of Engagement This is a great Regency novella I highly recommend for those truncated reading days when you want a quick fix of some sweet, clean romance. I found a lot to laugh out loud about.
5. Georgette Heyer: Cotillion A Reg Rom fan favorite, the delightfully obtuse at times hero is worth the read alone. Be prepared for rompish scrapes and solecisms.
6. Anya Wylde: Penelope: Delightfully silly and fun. There is very light intimacy, but the prochronistic leanings and often very silly plot devices, require a great license for levity.
7. Joan Smith: Regency Masquerade: A little suspense in this backlisted Belgrave re-release, this one had me up into the wee hours caught between laughter and tension. Great characters.
Deliciously Wicked
8. Lynn Messina: The Harlow Hoyden Messina’s skillful understanding of the genre, character development and the Reg Readers favorite tropes (a feisty hoyden heroine and a reluctant, terribly attractive rogue hero) are matched only by delicious action, funny scenes, and a satisfying ending.
9. Angela Quarles: Must Love Breeches A time travel and a bit post Regency, this one nonetheless tickled my funny bone for its mash up of modern and past with healthy doses of Reg Rom tropes.
10. Kasey Michaels: The Rambunctious Lady Royston: Lots of slapstick on the nose comedy, funny characters and great dialogue. Intimate scenes and anacronisms are not for the traditionalist.
That last one seems familiar…is that the one where there’s a bed full of cushions which the heroine suspects of whelping when her back’s turned?
Hahaha…its been a while since I read The Rambunctious Lady Royston, and that isn’t ringing a bell…but it sounds funny. Maybe I need a refresher!
I just love Cotillion! One you can re-read and still laugh at! I recently read Alicia Quigley’s Sense and Sensuality – a great combination of humor and hot, but tasteful sex scenes – fum for the modern romance reader.
Thanks for the recommendation! I am prepping a Reg Reader recommended funny Regencies…I will be sure to add that to the list!
