WHO BETTER TO SUIT THAN TWO PEAS IN A POD?
After becoming a godfather to his close friend’s newborn, Ned Windermere decided to reform his rakish ways. Then he met the lad’s godmother, the wayward Miss Christina Lindsay—and at once Ned wished to tame her.
If there was anything Christina loathed, it was constraint—especially from a rogue like Windermere. Yet when he dared to kiss her, she discovered there was more to this match of wits than a mere game. . . .
The H/h are both lovable scapegraces, his main redeeming quality the sudden devotion to his godson. Otherwise he is a gambling, drinking, carousing rake. She has been smooching teachers at her school. And now she is about Town, she is encouraging all the fortune hunters.
They are thrown together by Christina’s sister in law who thinks they would be a great match…and she pulls the strings like a fairy godmother throughout.
This was a short read, but unfortunately suffered for it. We get told what a hoyden Christina is, but never get to see it first hand. When this forms the basis of the attraction, a cat and mouse game between H/h, but its only mentioned in two paragraphs…well let’s just say the romance fizzles when it could have sparkled (and probably been really, really funny). The writing is generally solid, and I wanted to like it, but could never really get in to it.
A quick peek at GoodReads, however, shows that others did really enjoy it…so I may be the minority in recommending to give this one a pass.
3 out of 6 Too much tell, not enough show…but its a quick read with enough Reg spirit to be enjoyed
