A regal beauty must choose between virtue and desire when she falls under the spell of the most irresistible rake in the realm. When Viscount Sedgewick has to recover from a fall at the country manor of Meg Ashburton, the regal beauty is captivated and soon looses her heart.
Meg has grown into her looks. Her Town debut was marked by bad, overruffled dresses and a tall, gangly figure that resulted in her being a wallflower. She returned home without an offer, and has devoted herself to the family horse farm. Although she has given up marriage, she still has tender memories of Lord Sedgewick who danced with her twice.
Which makes it all the more terrifying when she and her brother come upon a road accident to find an unconscious Sedgewick with a broken leg and huge gash on his forehead. He wakes briefly to proclaim the now beautiful Meg “an angel” before passing out again.
For about half the book, Sedgewick is at Thornhill recuperating in bed. So those of you who enjoy the Florence Nightgale kind of theme, this might work for you. The second half is a variation on the misunderstanding theme, so there’s that, too.
This is part of Candice Hern’s Regency Rakes Triology, connected to A Proper Companion and A Change of Heart, but can be easily read as a standalone. It wasn’t my favorite of Hern’s, but its still as solid, traditional Reg Rom with good character developments/arcs, a little bit of villianry, and a satisfying HEA pay off.
3.75 out of 6 Solid traditional romance with misunderstanding trope

Traditional Reg Rom good for most audiences, although a bit more than kissing goes down. Older H/h may make boring for teens. |
