Regency Pastimes: Tambour Work

The young lady’s book: a manual of elegant recreations, exercises, and pursuits, 1829

Tambour work would have been the quick, easiest form of embroidery to embellish accessories and clothing (https://www.janeausten.co.uk/create-tambour-work-embroidery/) and a popular elegant pastime for young ladies.  A lady might also do tambour applique work where one material was tamboured on another or tamboured netting (The Lady’s Manual of Fancy-work, 1858).
