You have sent so much fun feedback and wonderful comments, we thought we would post another 10 Maxims to get you in the Regency mindset from A Treatise on Politeness, etc (1813) authored by A Lady:

32 Know that it is sometimes to gain to know how sometimes to lose and that prudence may often require that you should sacrifice your own interests 33 Never speak to any one of their misfortunes unless you have both the the will to relieve them it is both imprudent and unkind to do so power and

34 To be offended without just cause shews a little mind and want of knowledge of the world 35 When in company do not repeat all the trifles you have heard or read lest your memory should be more esteemed than your judgment 36 Reverse of fortune is but trifling if we know how to bear it tis our impatience that renders it insupportable 37 The necessaries of life are sufficient superfluity is needless and more frequently prevents than promotes happiness This doctrine may not please in general but by necessaries I mean what is suitable to your birth and station in life whatever is
more tends to inspirê sentiments that none should wish to entertain 38 The world is dangerous only in proportion as we love its maxims When what passes in it is not considered in a false point of view it is a continual lesson to iteach us to shun vice and follow virtue 39 Do not purchase the favours of princes by any act unworthy of your birth and education 40 The characteristic of a man of quality should be to be courteous to every body the more you cultivate such a character the higher will be the respect felt for you 41 The extreme of gentleness approaches to insipidity or insensibility and the extreme of severity degenerates into cruelty sea verity and gentleness must be exerted aco cording to the occasion prudence and discretion will guide you in the exercise of either and teach you to avoid the extreme of both
