I was perusing my local bookshop this weekend and stumbled upon this embroidery kit. Wanting to treat myself after two weeks reducing my social media scrolling, I picked this Embroider the World of Jane Austen Kit. Since we are getting into gift giving season, I thought it would be fun to start featuring some of my favorite Regency themed items.
I have embroidered in the past, but this kit actually introduced me to a few new stitches so I think it would be easy for a beginner to pick up. The kit includes the instructional booklet, thread, two needles, two pieces of cotton fabric, an embroidery hoop, and some iron on transfers for the patterns. Only four of the patterns are included in the transfers, which was a little disappointing, but the booklet does guide how to transfer the other designs in the booklet using a photocopier. Which also may be a handy technique for the future!
The booklet also has an easy design for a reticule and some tree ornaments.
I picked the Emma quote to get me started and deviated from the guided colors to better suit my office where I plan to hang the finished piece above my desk.
I have been finding it an enjoyable evening task when I don’t feel like reading and I am watching tv (or have it on for background noise).
If you love to embroider, or know someone who does and who loves Jane Austen, I think this a great gift. Its reasonably priced, considering that it comes with a hoop and thread, and has some really fun designs that I know I will enjoy making for sweet gifts or decorative accents around my home. I do most of my crafting as the weather turns cold, and so am looking forward to keeping my hands busy creating beautiful, inspirational designs. It’s also given me some ideas and some new techniques for future projects!
I found it in my small town bookshop, so if you are in a city you might be able to find it at your favorite retailer, otherwise it’s an easy order online. If you like the author’s doodle style, she also has a variety of other books and designs available.
I purchased this kit with my own money, but I am sharing affiliate links to Amazon above. Your purchase using my link does help support Regency Reader website costs.
