Addleplot – spoil sport, someone who disrupts or interferes with someone else’s enjoyment or plans.
The term is said to date from around the 1690s. Spoilsport was also used as early as 1786, as well as spoil pudding (Grose’s 1788 dictionary) which was a more specific: “A parson who preaches long sermons, keeping his congreation in church till the puddings are over done.”
