Regency Reader Question
I have been reading regency romances obsessively for weeks. I saw a preview of one story at the end of a book I had just finished, but didn’t note down the title. Then I deleted the book I had read from my Kindle. I hope someone can help me find the title from this much of the plot: 25 year old ‘spinster’ lady escapes home with the help of a maid, to answer an advertisement for a mail order bride. She’s interested because of some kind of oppression at home. She is late for the appointment with the lawyer who wrote the advertisement due to a carriage accident delaying her on the way to the train and having to catch another. She travels by train, then finds the lawyer the appointed inn just as he is finished interviewing another candidate. She thinks the other candidate got the job as the mail order bride, but the second lady was interviewing for the position of the housekeeper. The actual man who is looking for a wife, not the lawyer, is a nobleman who lives in a remote location and is also having trouble keeping servants due to the isolation of the house. Heroine meets the nobleman, with whom she had a passing interaction after first arriving at the inn and looking for the lawyer, and likely gets the job as wife, but that’s the last I read. The nobleman is tall and has a scar due to military service. The lawyer is short, rotund, and has glasses. The housekeeper interviewed was surly. Heroine is pretty and looks younger than 25. Any idea what the title is?
