FIFTY POUNDS REWARD JAMES ATKINSON having daily complaints of counterfeit articles being sold as the following of his manufacture considers it equally due to bimself and the protection of the public to prevent such impositions in future He therefore offers the above re ward to any one who will inform him either of the real fabricator or vender of such spurious articles in order that they may be proceeded against by law for the deception The following are the articles alluded to ATKINSON'S CURLING FLUID Well known for its singular efficacy in restoring the bair where it has fallen off from illness perspira tion change of climate & c It is also much esteem ed by ladies for making the hair beautifully soft and glossy and for preserving it in curl during exercise in dancing or walking or in damp weather ATKINSON'S VEGETABLE DYE Changes red or grey hair on the bead or whiskers to an auburn or black so permanent that neither washing perspiration nor any other cause can pos sibly remove the colour ATKINSON'S AMBROSIAL SOAP Removes freckles redness and hardness from the skin keeps it from cbapping and makes it white soft and even It is also prepared in round cakes for sbaving and is peculiarly adapted to gentlemen whose beards are strong or faces tender Sold by JAMES ATKINSON Perfumer No 44 Gerrard street Soho square London and by most respectable Perfumers and Medicine Venders But tinct on the label it is necessary to observe his name and address dis 100

I love this bizarre ad so much (La Belle Assemblee, July 1819), as perfumer James Atkinson (est. 1799) offers a reward for turning in counterfeit beauty products.

Atkinson’s still exists today, branding themselves “200 years of perfume snobbery” (About Us Atkinsons 1799).
