When Marina inherits a small house on the East Devon coast from her beloved aunt, she intends to sell up quickly and continue the quiet life she has always known. But the charming property awakens something she thought she had lost: the desire to choose her own future. Marina transforms the house into a bookshop and circulating library, creating a space that offers her independence and a sense of purpose. But everything changes when an old love walks through the door and the past refuses to remain buried.

The Little Regency Bookshop is a tender story of second chances, courage, and rediscovered love, set in Regency Devon.

I received this book for free from The Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

A second chance romance between two late forties MCs set in a small village in Devon is a low-angst, kisses only novelette – so a one session and done read.  Which given the state of my TBR was welcome.

Marina inherits a small home in a coastal town, as well as a small bequeath, after being a faithful and loving chaperone to her Aunt for thirty years following a disappointment in love. When she visits her inheritance, she quickly realises she can live out her dream of opening a bookshop and circulating library.  But when the only man she has ever loved walks through the doors with his precocious daughter Marina is rattled to her core.

At first, I wasn’t sure if this was even a romance, as the pacing focuses for the first near half of the novellette on Marina’s journey. I think I might have missed some cues in the book, but honestly I was enjoying a deviation from romance and a look at a spinster turning herself into a boss baddie.  Who hasn’t fantasized about running away to a coastal town and running a little shop?  The premise sucked me in.  And just when we are getting settled, in walks a familiar face.

The reality is, 74 pages isn’t really a lot of words to have significant character arcs or even character studies, so this was more of a cozy read about happenstance bringing two old loves together for the opportunity to try again. I don’t want to spoil too, but I will say there were some good historical details, a cozy setting, and a nice HEA, so I think if you are looking for a sweet way to spend a few hours and also dream about a coastal retail life — check this one out.  Although younger readers probably can’t relate to middle-aged characters, I think this one should work for most readers as there were only mild mature themes.
