For my new historical nonfiction book, Regency Masquerades in Regency Britain, I poured over hundreds of advertisements like this, as well as hundreds of editorials and reports of the masquerades during the long Regency.ย Argyll Rooms is one of the first venues featured in the book, which includes a look at all the popular venues over the long Regency.ย I kept in mind Regency Readers, on the hunt for those details which help to bring Regency stories to life.
The book also features detailed information, in many parts gleaned from these primary sources, on everything from decor, food, and costumes to anecdotes about the people who made these events memorable.
I have shared on the blog information about the Argyll Rooms here: Regency Hot Spots: Argyll Rooms ย but you can find more details in:

Readers are saying: โfascinating read and it really opened the doors to see what masquerades were really like in the era of Bridgerton and other of my favorite period dramasโ
โI would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the social history of the Regency period, especially those curious about the cultural and performative aspects of elite society.ย Itโs a valuable resource for researchers..โ
โThis fascinating work of scholarship is a feast for the imagination. The level of detail is incredible; the author definitely did her research!โฆ it is a must-read for anyone who enjoys reading or writing about the Regency era in England.โ
