Kasey Michaels: How to Woo a Spinster

Still unmarried at twenty-eight, Lady Emmaline Daughtry has resigned herself to spinsterhood. Then Captain John Alistair arrives at her door—the very image of the perfect lover of her most private dreams. But can a man with a secret and a woman who’s never known love find happiness when they least expect to?

A “Daughtry family prequel”, this novella is short, sweet and well-written.  Although I am not sure if I had to do it again I would’ve paid full price ($2.99).  Because it literally took me less than an hour to read.

But I generally have liked Kasey Michaels before (see here and here) and there was not full disclosure on the listing on my e-reader shop that this was a novella, so I gave it a whirl.

Because it was so short, there is not much to review.  It really is a central story around a pretty much love at first sight couple of days with the H/h, which some readers will find hokey.  I say that, because normally I would find it hokey.  But a lonely spinster and a Captain returning from war?  I believe it.  At least, I believe there were some serious sparks a flying in the downstairs department (yes, that means there is a fair amount of getting down even with the limited word count).

I think this was a nice set up for the future series, which I haven’t yet read—but it worked because I am intrigued.  However, because it had been a while since I purchased when I got to the end, I naturally assumed I had downloaded for free.  Because it was so short.

So, if you are truly looking for a short Regency novella with some steamy vanilla action, by all means fork over the $3 (or whatever it is currently is listed at in your corner of the internet).  But if you are expecting more pages, more drama, and more believability in your romance…give this one a pass.

5 Stars 3.5 out of 6 Short and sweet, with a little spice, this novella packs a lot in a limited word count.
