This collection of mostly Victorian romances have elements of the paranormal, or creepy/Autumnal settings to compliment the romances. These are novella form, and fairly easy to read, although the stories vary in their success and skill.
I haven’t read a lot of the authors in this anthology, so it was a good introduction to find some new favorites and other authors that probably aren’t a great fit for me. Most were low heat, but many had violence or mature themes that warranted a higher rating on the spice scale.
I really enjoyed the first story (Jennifer Ashley: Lady Clara’s Ghost) which is light hearted but has a paranormal element. This was the perfect encapsulation of what I love to read this time a year, and worth the low cost for this anthology.
I really enjoy Samantha Holt, and so found her addition, The Viscount’s Vow to be consistent with her quality writing. There was a small paranormal element, but a lot of big Autumn mood.
Ghost Whispers by Katherine Lyons features a family of mediums, and a second chance romance that was enjoyable. Stranger at Crossroads had a helpful ghost in the form of deux es machina, and A Spirited Conspiracy also had helpful ghosts and mediums abound.
I think if you are with me and looking for that perfect seasonal historical romance read, this is a good place to start — you are sure to find one or two stories that work and DNF the ones that aren’t working for you.
