These two designs for escritoires appeared in A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration in the Most Approved and Elegant Taste, 1805. Escritoires are small writing desks with drawers and compartments, also commonly called a secretary desk. The desk would fold out on a hinged flap and make a delicate surface for penning correspondence.
