Regency Dish: Sauce for Broiled Steaks

This recipe from A Lady’s Best Companion (1800).
To make Sauce for broiled Steaks Take a handful of sweet herbs two anchovies an onion ficed thin a glass of ale and a little nutmeg mix them together and add to them some lemon peel put to them a little water and let them boil pour the liquor upon the steaks when they are ready and it will make the steaks eat with a fine relish
