“GLOCESTERS HIRE.
TACK FOR CATTLE, HORSES, & SHEEP, in Minsterworth Ham, upon the usual Terms, with Liberty of changing at the Will the Tacker. All Persons who take Tack are required to Burn Mark their and Cattle with the Initial Letters of their Christian and Surname ; the former in the Hoof, and the latter in the Horn; and to give the gate-keeper description in Writing of the Stock, the Proprietor will not be answerable for any Strays that may happen. The Ham will opened on Monday, the 12th of May inst. and chained, as to Cattle and Horses, on the 1st of October, and Sheep on the 23th December following. ” Apply Mr. DowcH, at Highgrove, or at the Bull in Glocester, every Saturday”
This ad appeared in the Gloucester Journal on May 5, 1800. I thought it was instructional on some branding practices, so had to share.
