I was fascinated by the recommendation to use castor oil for salad sauces, knowing it mostly as a medicinal oil used for its laxative effects or cosmetic application. There are some food grade castor oil today that are used in various additives and flavorings, and it has a tradition of being used, in small amounts in parts of India. It has a nutty and rich flavor which probably did taste nice when combined with some vinegar on a cooked veggie salad.
